How to pack your kayak
  • LOCATION: The Gippsland Lakes are situated just past Sale, approximately 3-4 hours drive east of Melbourne. The meeting location is at Lake Wellington Yacht Club. The yacht club is accessible by car by turning right 5km out of Sale and travelling along Bengworden Road, then turn right again on the Marley Point road and head to the Yacht Club.
  • DESCRIPTION: This journey traces the former 1880s to 1930s inland steamer shipping route plied between Sale and Lakes Entrance. The journey starts near Marley Point, Lake Wellington (with a view of the Alps to the north) and proceeds through McLennan Straits, along Lake Victoria to Lakes Entrance, a distance of 100 km.
          Lake Wellington is one of the most remote areas in the Gippsland Lakes system and thus camp sites are fairly untouched and a sense of space and adventure is created. This is one of the great kayaking journeys in Australia.
  • GRADE: Novice—years 10 to 12
  • DURATION: 7 to 8 days
  • MINIMUM GROUP SIZE: 12
