Westernport School Sea Kayak Expedition

LOCATION: Westernport Bay is located approximately 1 to 2 hours drive from Melbourne. Starting Point can be at Corinella, Hastings, Stony Point or Cannons Creek.

DESCRIPTION: Westernport Bay encompasses Phillip Island and French Island, two contrasting areas of settlement and environmental features. Phillip Island is one of Victoria’s playgrounds in summer and can be heavily populated, but off peak it is very peaceful. The coast line is rugged and spectacular. French Island is one of the more remote areas in Victoria with only 80 people living on an island and is about twice the size of Phillip Island. 
Both areas are rich in natural habitat with the north side of French Island and Churchill Island (near Rhyll on Phillip Island) being recently designated as a Marine National Park. These areas are known for their mangroves, seagrass beds and saltmarsh habitats for fish such as whiting and for lamp shells (prehistoric life forms).
French Island has one of Victoria’s largest koala colonies and is also home to many animals and birds. As with many SKA trips, dolphins and seals may also be seen. Westernport is known for its tidal movements and thus tides become an integral part of expedition planning.

GRADE: Novice—years 10 to 12

DURATION: 2 to 4 days

MINIMUM GROUP SIZE: 12

East Coast Wilsons Promontory Sea Kayak Tour

Sea Kayak Expedition along the scenic east coast of Wilsons Promontory for 6 days. Camping at all the best beaches. Amazing landscape and beautiful beaches. 10 km per day of paddling so plenty of time to fish, snorkel, walk and relax. Boat pick up at the end to take people back to the start.

Tour Dates: 4 - 9 December 2017, 6 - 11 February 2018, 8 - 13 March 2018, 2 - 7 April 2018.

Comprehensive course covering all basic kayaking skills, capsizing plus theory on tide, wind, waves and trip planning. Kayak and kayak gear supplied plus course notes. Kayak Hire on the Yarra River at Abbotsford (Melbourne)

Kayak Hire is from Abbotsford - Yarra River (all year round). We supply a trolley and are located just 300m from the water. We are open every day in autumn. Call before hand to make sure kayaks are available and make a booking.
