Sea kayak along the Sorrento and Portsea foreshores towards Pt Nepean National Park. The Dolphin Sanctuary provides the experience of seeing Bootlenose and Common dolphins up close. Clear water, sandy beaches, mansions along the foreshore. Visit the former quarantine station at lunch time or just look out over the "Heads" and Queenscliff.
LOCATION: Sorrento foreshore (west side of Sorrento Yacht Club)
DESCRIPTION: Explore the beautiful protected southern waters of Port Phillip Bay. The waters are clear and azure and full of marine life.
Participants start just before Sorrento township and firstly gear up, adjust rudders and listen to a safety talk before jumping on the water. You then get use to your double sea kayaks and develop your paddling skills in the shallows.
You then kayak past historic seaside towns of Sorrento and Portsea with rich maritime and early settlement history. Participants can observe historical mansions along the cliff tops with their outdoor swimming enclosures below.
Point Nepean National Park and the dolphin sanctuary are next. Bottlenose and Common dolphins frequent this area so it's an amazing feeling when dophins appear beside your sea kayak! I may also see sea eagles, pelicans, pacific gulls and cormorants.
Lunch stop is on the beach at Point Nepean Park beside the fascinating former quarantine station. Lunch is gourmet rolls, hot and cold drinks, fruit and biscuits. There is time to have a look around the former quarantine station while taking in amazing views of the "Heads" and Queenscliff.
Then return to start with a break along the way near Pt King to take in a view.
